Radiology Study Days

January 2008 - 2016 ongoing

GP Rotating Study Day in Radiology
Wednesdays, GWH Swindon

Have you ever asked yourself: What does a CT scan involve? Are MRI%u2019s noisy? Are Barium Enemas fun? What do radiologists do all day? What does Duplex mean? Do GP%u2019s all ask for the same Xrays? Where do I come in the film request rankings?!

This is a day%u2019s informal course attending the Radiology department at the GWH, Swindon and is aimed at General Practitioners wishing to learn more about Radiology and it%u2019s relevance to General Practice. It is hoped that on successive Wednesdays (depending on demand) a single GP will be able to visit the department for the day. The day will be relatively structured depending on what is going on but would hope to include the following:

- Attendance at an MDT meeting
- Shadowing a consultant reporting a batch of GP plain films
- Attending the Radiological Breast Clinic for symptomatic patients
- Watching an Ultrasound scan
- Shadowing a consultant running the CT and MRI list
- Watching a Barium Enema
- Seeing an Angiogram
- Reviewing Nuclear Medicine scans

We would also encourage GP%u2019s to bring details of any patients of their own that have had Scans or Xrays taken so that these could be discussed.

The day will be very relaxed and adapted to suit the needs of the individual GP especially those with a sub-speciality interest.

In turn we hope that we will also be able to learn from those that come and improve our working relationship with Primary Care. It should be a fun, light hearted and hopefully interesting day so if you are interested or want to find out more can you contact me, Dr Andy Beale or my secretary Denise Milton, on 01793 605067.
